Not exactly the race I was hoping for and I can’t say I did the best I could. The nerves got to me. I basically forgot my entire strategy once we got to the line. Splits were around 6:05, 6:25, 5:55. There was no one from Central nearby so I had no clue if I was going too fast or slow. I maybe let 10-15 people pass me during the first 2 miles until I passed them back by the last mile. I need to start adopting a mentality of pushing regardless of the outcome. Happy with the 2nd place overall for the sophomores.

FINALLY ran SUB 12 but with mediocre execution. My 1st mile was pretty good (5:57), I stayed ~20m behind Nate throughout. Unsurprisingly, laps 5 and 6 were my weakest. I was definitely too worried about the final lap and a minor stomach cramp I was having. By lap 7, I saw Nate and Momin ~50m ahead. Instead of slowly catching up to them, I saved all my energy for the last lap when I passed them. I am surprised at how even my mile splits were (5:57, 5:56) but definitely need to work on laps 5 and 7. I have not run the 3200m in a while and also did not have any sort of strategy before the race (apart from running sub 12). 10 minutes after, I ran another mile in 6:08 which went just about the same as the 3200m (started slow, save too much energy by the end). At least I have more information about conference will go.

SUB 18 18:36 -> 17:48 (-48) I think a lot of people like myself did not expect to perform as good as we did today. Once I got to the line after the last stride, I noticed something that I hadn’t experienced in many months: I wasn’t nervous. I think this is because I was focused on sticking with the pack and following my plan. Throughout pretty much all of my previous meets, I didn’t start as fast as I could have. Instead, I decided today would finally be the day I would go out fast. Unfortunately, I don’t know my exact splits, but I think I finally started out strong. After the 1st mile, me, Isa, and Ganon were all still close together. We kept pushing to pass the people ahead. By the 3rd mile, I was pretty much on my own. With 1200m to go, I saw Nate ahead of me and decided I would try and catch up to him. I was unsuccessful, but got pretty close and crossed the line without a super massive kick at the end like before. You always have more energy than you think; it’s a metric that is nearly impossible to imagine. I’d like to say my race was perfectly executed, but I definitely felt too good during the 2nd mile. Amazing to see everyone PR.
