After taking 2.5 minutes after the 800m jog that I went into straight after the threshold, did the 4x200s on the street. Used my Garmin distance for the first and even though the GPS acted up on the jog back, still got pretty good 200 splits that were accurate. Went 37.3, 38.1, 37.5, 37.1. For right now those were a pretty solid mile pace effort. Obviously hoping for those to get faster as I build back more speed and get a faster mile time. Went straight into the 800 cooldown after this. To get the run in I went out a little further than my house. The 800 didn’t get me all the way back home and the 0.5 walk wasn’t so pleasant but oh well got a good workout stretch!
Uploading this not on the Garmin because the GPS was not working great where I did the tempo, which makes sense based on the location but oh well. The entire time I was going north it said 6:10-6:15 pace, but once I did the 360 turn, which did slow me down, the entire time going south it said over 7 min pace, which is obviously not right since it was exact same. Did a little over a mile, 1.2, so I could get to the half mile stretch on a super open road, which is rare in the city, that had no snow. Went straight into the 2 mile tempo, splits were 6:14 and 6:15. Considering I did this all alone when it was getting pitch black, I’m super happy how smooth it felt! The Man by Taylor Swift started and ended off the threshold perfectly.
Good first portion of the long run. Furthest I’ve run in a long time which was exciting. I thought the river trail would be a lot more cleared out but unfortunately it wasn’t. A lot of it was packed down snow which was super hard to run in, especially for the pickups. But besides the bad footing the run went well and felt fine. Got a later start on it than I would have liked to but I needed the sleep.
Easy Run with 4x20 sec mid run strides. Felt okay today, quite a bit out of it since I didn’t want to be at that practice the entire time I was there. Also super snowy and slushy the entire run, it was snowing during the run which made the footing not so good. Also 2x80m post run strides after too.
Easy run today with strides after. Practice was earlier in the day and it was about -4 outside actual temp so we had the run in the parking garage. I wish I was able to just run on a treadmill or go out since I brought the layers, but with everything happening with the teams I feel like I have to report somewhere and it’s better to run with the guys to have someone. Not super fun but went by quick enough and kept it easy.
Easy run after I got home from strength. Was definitely already feeling my legs right away with the sled pull and weighted squats/jumps. Went pretty slow and just kept it light. Just went back and forth on a stretch I knew was shoveled since it was dark and didn’t want to have to worry about footing. It was FREEZING outside too but I feel like once it gets to a certain temp it just doesn’t feel any colder.
Not a fun one… luckily most of the lakefront trail once I got a bit further south was clear, but there were really slushy patches. Made it a lot harder than it needed to be. Also the way back was just straight wind in the face, plus the snow kept whipping in my face too so I literally couldn’t see. Got the 5x3 minutes done though, kept it controlled to roughly 6:05-6:15 pace the entire time. Last minute was straight slush running, thought I was going to fall on my face! Splits are a bit all over from the turn around and how much of the mile was the recovery jog and how much was tempo effort. For the conditions, I was relatively happy about how the run went.
Got a little too fast on this one but felt pretty chill over all. Took a different route to change it up and go on the river north trail. Longest run in a while getting over 5 miles which is exciting! Next week I will definitely be taking easy runs a bit easier but today was a bit more on feel, arms and legs weren’t sore anymore. 5 minute transition once I got back home into 40 minutes on eliptigo!
