WE’RE BAAAAAAACK!
This was such a great race. First race back and it went really well.
Mile 1: 5:55
The start of the race was really rough. Not for me specifically, I was able to dodge the people falling around me. But there were so many people all over. I realized very early on that I’d have to run on the edge all the way or I’d be boxed in. I hadn’t really prepared for the hill but it wasn’t as bad as I expected. I stood my ground and loosened out on the way down.
Mile 2: 5:51
This part of the race was a real grind. I switched my attention from keeping in a tactical spot on the course to passing people when the course allowed it. Focusing on positioning made the race much more tactical and fun. At this point I was still behind Brady.
Mile 3: 5:50
Last mile I passed a lot of people. I could see Brady ahead of me the whole race and Ian just in the distance. I passed Brady before the hill, Ian right before, and I got Noah and Akhil on the last downhill section. I really loosened up on the downhills and that was where I made up the most ground. I took the final 100 cautiously because subconsciously, I’m still a little scared of re-injuring myself.
Final Thoughts:
I am super happy with this race. I kept telling myself when I was cross training that I needed to push myself if I wanted to keep my fitness level, and I did. I’m super proud of myself for keeping strong during that time and giving a good effort. I got 4th on the team, 31st in the race, and I ended with a 17:38. The team got 2nd place. I’m super proud of myself and so excited for the rest of the season. Of course
I had negative splits, but that’s something to work on for this season.
