SUB 18
18:36 -> 17:48 (-48)
I think a lot of people like myself did not expect to perform as good as we did today. Once I got to the line after the last stride, I noticed something that I hadn’t experienced in many months: I wasn’t nervous. I think this is because I was focused on sticking with the pack and following my plan. Throughout pretty much all of my previous meets, I didn’t start as fast as I could have. Instead, I decided today would finally be the day I would go out fast. Unfortunately, I don’t know my exact splits, but I think I finally started out strong. After the 1st mile, me, Isa, and Ganon were all still close together. We kept pushing to pass the people ahead. By the 3rd mile, I was pretty much on my own. With 1200m to go, I saw Nate ahead of me and decided I would try and catch up to him. I was unsuccessful, but got pretty close and crossed the line without a super massive kick at the end like before. You always have more energy than you think; it’s a metric that is nearly impossible to imagine. I’d like to say my race was perfectly executed, but I definitely felt too good during the 2nd mile. Amazing to see everyone PR.
