Blackhawk route - was a time trial for varsity but it was unclear whether it counted or not for freshman. Went out and held second for the entire way. Pretty tired from yesterday

2.5k m test on the erg. Was pretty nervous for this since it counts the most in tryouts. Had to go in a heat by myself since I had class until 5:20 so I had no one to pace myself with. Was very stressful being yelled at by varsity the entire time but I’m proud of how I dealt with it, despite dying towards the end. All in all, probably one of the hardest races ive ever done

3x10’ on the erg, 1’ at 2:00, 2’ at 1:56, 3’ at 1:52, 4’ at 1:48. Can’t quite hold a 1:48 for 4’ yet, although getting closer. Test on friday is an all out 2.5k. Should be roughly 8 minutes or so.

Erg workout - 3x10’ with 5 min rest. Splits were 2:00 for 4’, 1:55 for 3’, 1:50 for 2’, 1:45 for 1’. For the second two reps, the last rep was all out. Longest workout so far - did pretty well but still can’t hold faster paces in the latter half of the workout. Felt good about how I did relative to others. Next big test should be on friday

Fairly easy run through a lakeshore neighborhood. Was a new route, had to stop a few times so guys wouldn’t get lost. Picked up to 6:45 or so for the last mile.

10 min warm up, 4’3’2’1’ workout with varying rest. Managed to keep around a 1:45 pace which was decent but not my best. Was working with about four hours of sleep - not fun. Also noticed lactic acid is a lot more of a problem than it is with running.

5x2’ at 1:45 or below with 3’ rest. Important workout for making it past tryouts - pretty sure I did fairly well. Was able to keep 1:42-1:46 for most of it. Each rep felt very similar to an all out 800 workout (so I suppose I was relatively prepared). Was especially difficult coming off of a workout yesterday, but I feel like I managed to get by. Was told being able to stay below 1:45 is the baseline for making the freshman team. Would’ve appreciated a longer warmup/cooldown but it doesn’t seem like we’re there yet.

First part of tryouts - time trial. Placed around 5th out of 90 guys between frosh and varsity, feeling pretty good about the result. Legs were sore from a tough erg workout yesterday but felt solid otherwise. Another nice sunrise as well

10 out 10 back + rowed in tank for 25 min. Also biked to the madison arboretum after practice, was out for about an hour.
